Is the MT Ferrule for the MPO or the MTP® Connector?
Answer:
The MT Ferrule is central to both MPO and MTP® Connectors. Also called Mechanical Transfer Ferrule, it is made from glass-filled polymer, allowing for multiple fibers (12 to 16) to be terminated simultaneously. MT Ferrule and MPO Connector technologies were pioneered by NTT in the early 1980s. NTT's advancements led to the MPO standard by 1991, and US Conec enhanced it into the MTP® in 1992.
