We are seeking an Account Manager, Applications Advisor professional to play a key role in our company's next phase of growth assisting customers with both technical selection and acquirement of components, modules and systems for optical detection, measurement, and control.
Following our recent acquisition, we are entering a period of strategic expansion and innovation. Boston Electronics Company is a highly technical distributor of advanced electro-optical products, mostly from Europe. Our portfolio includes the photon counting products operating in the near UV, visible and near IR.
This Account Manager, Applications Advisor position offers learning opportunities in a structured, environment, working with a team of veteran sales engineers who match customer electro-optical sensing requirements with the most suitable photodetectors, light sources, and signal-processing solutions. This role offers training on a wide range of applications in UV, visible, infrared, and terahertz, and approaches and technical challenges within each.
Success in this role requires the ability to understand and satisfy customer needs and wants. It is a diverse customer base. They are in Government, Universities, and Industry, doing time resolved confocal laser microscopy, killing pathogens in water, air and on surfaces, molecular spectroscopy and process control in chemistry, infrared and terahertz imaging, laser radar of atmospheric aerosols and stand off temperature measurement, using linear/analog detection and digital/photon counting.
As one of our team, you will learn how the products our company can deliver and how they fit into these applications. You will also learn how to communicate with customers to identify their technical requirements, needs, goals, challenges, and desired outcomes. Customers range from National Labs and University researchers to instrument manufacturers.
Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in electronics or related fields would be good but is not required. Comfort with seeing and handling electronics and delicate products, a basic understanding of Ohm's Law and its applications, spreadsheet familiarity and ability are needed. Working with a diverse base of customers and applications driven by curiosity and a desire to solve problems when they arise are also needed.
Position Responsibilities
The Account Manager, Applications Advisor professional will prepare written quotations for customers and create and manage purchase orders with international vendors. The role involves responding to customer inquiries regarding order status and delivery timelines, as well as assisting with general administrative tasks supporting customer orders and project tracking. Maintaining strong, collaborative relationships with vendors and partners is essential, along with tracking and managing activities with attention to profitability and financial performance.
Learning and Development Opportunities
This role offers hands-on learning under the guidance of veteran engineers, providing exposure to a wide range of applications across the UV, visible, infrared, and terahertz regions. You will learn to engage effectively with customers and uncover their administrative needs like what is the price, what is the delivery, and perhaps in time technical needs and priorities. You will gain experience with photodetection, associated light sources, and with signal-processing technologies while building strong communication skills for addressing technical questions, including how to find answers for questions beyond your immediate expertise. You will understand how to satisfy customers, ensuring each customer feels well served, and learn how diverse applications in the UV, visible, IR, and THz ranges are analyzed and approached.
Growth Opportunities
Over time, this position provides a clear path for increased responsibility. Options include assuming primary customer-facing responsibility for Applications Engineering in one or more technical product areas (UV, visible, IR, THz), or taking on a team leadership role on the administrative side, supporting the Applications Engineering team.
Location
This is a position headquartered out of New Bedford, MA. During the initial training period, work will be conducted from the Brookline, MA and New Bedford, MA offices 2-4 days per week in-person, with other days from a remote home office. Following the training period, the position will be based at the New Bedford, MA headquarters, with travel and remote home office work. Senior roles work 50%-75% remote including travel on average.
